"Captain are sure this is a good idea?"  Asked Ford as he and the Captain walked onto the bridge.

"Yes Jonathan.  I have it all planned out."  Nathan said as he took his seat.

"Ok sir.  But I think I will have the guys ready to pick you up just in case."

They both chuckled at that. "How are the rest of the plans going for her party?"  Asked Ford.

"Good.  I'm surprised at how well Kristin is handling this.  I thought she would give me a fight about giving her a birthday party.  But she is having fun helping with the plans.  Actually I am glad she is helping.  This way she will get things just the way she wants them.  I did have to put my foot down about it being black tie.  I just can't see it any other way with what I have planned."

"Well I am looking forward to it.  It will be nice for the whole crew to have some time off even if it is for just the weekend.  How did you talk the UEO into giving us the time off anyways?"

"Oh I just called Bill and told him what I was up to and he took care of everything.  He said he and Janet want front row seats to this."

"I bet they do.  Hay how many know what you have planned?"

"Just you and Bill.  That is how I want it to stay.  I don't want her getting any clues."

"Don't worry sir."

Friday came and the ship docked at UEO headquarters.  Every one departed and headed to their respected places for the weekend.  Kristin was waiting for Nathan and Lucas at the end of the pier.

"Hey sailors need a ride anywhere?"  Kristin asked playfully as they approached her.

Nathan picked her up in a big bear hug and swung her around.  She let out a laugh and hugged him back.  He put her down and kissed her.  "Hey yourself.  Boy are you a sight for sore eyes."

She smiled at him and then tuned to Lucas and hugged him.  "Hi Doc.  How you been?"

"Oh I am a lot better now that you two are here.  Come on lets go home."

They all got in her car and headed to her house.

"So how are things coming for the party?" Nathan asked her when they were underway.

"They are all done actually.  I got the band, food, decorations, everything.  I can't wait.  It is going to be so good to see everyone.  Oh I got a hold of Katie.  She is going to come to."

"That is great.  I miss her."

The next day they all got ready for the party.  "Lucas have you seen Nathan?  He is going to make us late."  Kristin called from her room.

"No.  He said he had to get something in town and that he would be back in time.  Don't worry.  He will be here."

Just then Nathan walked in to the house.  He was dressed in a tux.  "Very sharp Cap.  Now I look under-dressed for this thing."  Lucas said, as he looked Nathan over.  Lucas was wearing dress pants, dress shirt and a tie.

"Are you ready to go?"  He asked him.

"Yap.  The Doc was just asking about you."

"Thanks.  Kristin are you ready yet?  We will be late."  Nathan called down the hall.

"It is about time you got here.  Come get ready.  And yes I am ready."  She called back

"So am I, so come on"

Kristin came out to the living room.  She heard gasps and wow's when she did.  She was wearing navy blue dress.  It was sleeveless, cut low in front to show her cleavage.  It went just below her knees.  The skirt was loose and flowing.  As she turned they saw it was backless she was wearing matching shoes.  Her hair was down framing her face.  She had on a simple necklace and earrings.  "I take it this was a good dress to wear?"  She said playfully.

"Oh ya.  Well let's go."  Nathan said as he walked to the door.

"Nathan where did you get that tux?"

"I went into town and picked it up.  I wanted to try to look good walking you in."  He said with a big smile on his face.

Kristin and Lucas just laughed.

The party was going well.  Everyone was there.  The room she had gotten was decorated with balloons, streamers, and signs saying Happy Birthday.  The band had keep people dancing all night.  Nathan walked over to the band and gave the signal he was ready for his surprise.  He then walked over to where Kristin was.  She was talking to Ford and Katie.

Just then the man in charge of the band made his announcement.  "Can I have everyone's attention please."?  When he knew he had everyone's attention he began.  "We all know why we are here tonight.  We are here to wish Kristin Westphalen a very happy birthday.  Where is the birthday girl?"  He asked looking around.  Nathan put his hand on her back and guided her to the dance floor that was now empty.  "A special song has been requested for you."  He said as she took the floor.

"Oh no please do not sing happy birthday to me."  She pleaded.

"Actually I requested it.  I had the band write this song just for you." Nathan said from beside her.  She looked at him puzzled.

"Ok then."  She said

The band began to play a soft song and Nathan pulled her into his arms and started to dance with her.  Everyone watched as the song played on.

Kristin was listening to the song very closely.  If Nathan requested it, it must be special.  As she listened to the song, she hugged him tighter.  The words were taking her breath away.

The crowd was all smiles knowing how much this meant to both of them.  Bill and Janet came over to Jonathan who was standing with Katie and gave him a knowing pat on the back.  They exchanged smiles then watched as the two danced on holding each other very tight.  They could see Kristin had her eyes closed and her head on Nathan's shoulder.  The song played on.

As the song came to an end Kristin did not want to let go but Nathan pulled away from her.  "Kristin there is something I have to say to you.  So please don't talk just listen.  This song is so true to how I feel about you.  From the first time I saw you on seaQuest fighting with Ford I was taken with you.  Then when you turned on me with that same fire and spunk it was amazing.  You stole my heart right then and there.  It took me a while to see but I now know that is when I fell in love with you."

As he spoke she took her free hand and wiped away a tear that started to fall down her cheek.

"I was just so determined not to let anyone else in my heart after Carol.  But your smile just captured me and the moment that I looked into your eyes, you really did own me.  You helped me to love again and let other in to my life."

Just then he went down on to one knee.  He pulled something out of his pocket.  By now Kristin was in full tears her hand went to her mouth. "Now I want you in my life for now and ever.  Kristin Westphalen will you marry me?"  Nathan asked looking up at her.  She just shook her head yes as Nathan put the ring on her finger.  He stood again and she threw her arms around him in a big hug as the guests  went wild with whoops and cheers.

Everyone was all around them in an instant congratulating them.  They spent the rest of the night thanking people for their well wishes.

As the party started to die down Nathan found his way to Kristin who was sitting at one of the tables talking to some of the guests.

"Are you just about ready to go Kristin?"

"Yes I am."  She turned and thanks the people at the table then walked away with her new husband to be.

"This was the best birthday party I have ever had.  Thank you Nathan."

"You are most welcome."

The left the party hand in hand.
