Part 7

Harm's began his morning retching his guts out due to a strong bout of nausea. He had resisted taking the antiemetic drugs given to ease the side effects of his chemo because they added to his drowsiness. He needed to be alert in court this morning he had rationalized, but was beginning to have second thoughts.

Mac was defending while he prosecuted. He struggled to maintain his concentration as he swallowed repeatedly through out the cross in an attempt to keep the bile down that rose to the back of his throat. The waves of nausea were controlled until Mac called a witness not on the list. He stood up a little to quickly to object, and experienced a moment of syncope and nausea. Mac looked at him worriedly when he stood unsteadily and for a moment looked like he was going to pass out.

"Commander Rabb are you alright?" Morris voiced his concern.

"I need a brief recess." He succeeded in requesting before he hurried out of the courtroom and into the restroom.

He leaned weakly over the sink and splashed water on his face trying to control his dry heaves.

"Harm, you're ill." Mac soft voice said apprehensively after witnessing a particularly violent series of heaving.

"Good deduction, I believe you are in the 'men's' room, Colonel." He gasped while supporting himself against the sink.

"I'm going to ask Admiral Morris for a postponement until you're feeling better." She gently offered ignoring his sarcasm.

Harm was about object when another wave of nausea and dry heaves interrupted him. After the nausea subsided enough for him to leave the head, court had been adjourned until the next morning. He returned to his office and with trembling hands dialed Dr. Owen's office number, "Gwen, I need to come by." He said miserably.

*You sound ill*

"Yea, I feel like all the energy in my body has been sucked out of me, and I can't control the nausea."

Mac approached Harm's office and stood at his office doorway as he finished his phone conversation.

*I'm looking at yesterday's blood work. Your hematocrit and hemoglobin are low. That explains your fatigue. I'll bet Dr. Owen is going to want to give you a transfusion so you need to be prepared to stay the night.*

"You want me to stay the night?" Harm chuckled weakly in frustration.

*He'll have you out of here in time to go back to work.*

"Okay, okay...thanks Gwen. I'll see you as soon as I can tie up loose ends here."

*Get someone to drive you.*

"I'll get a cab." Harm hung up the phone and looked up to see Mac standing at his door with a hurt confused look on her face.

"I just came by to check on you. Sounds like you've got everything under control." She said with no emotion and left.
